Design Consultant Project

This project showcases my process as a furniture store designer, from in-home consultation through final presentation. This project involved the design of a sitting room, living room, and dining room for clients with a highly curated and specific aesthetic. The design direction blended eclectic, bohemian, mid-century, and earthy influences, resulting in spaces that feel layered, personal, and cohesive.

Through thoughtful space planning and furniture selection, I created rooms that balance bold character with functionality. Each piece was selected for its ability to complement the client’s existing furnishings while introducing new textures, warm materials, and sculptural forms. The final design reflects the client’s unique style while maintaining a cohesive flow throughout all three spaces.

Understanding the Space: Measurement & Planning

Every project begins with an in-home consultation. I visit the client’s home to take detailed measurements, photograph the existing space, and gain a clear understanding of how they live in their home.

After the consultation, I recreate the client’s home digitally using Floorplanner. I draw the floor plan to scale and build out each room, ensuring accurate proportions and clear circulation paths. Existing furniture pieces are placed first, followed by new selections, allowing me to design a layout that feels complete, balanced, and functional.

Furniture & Finish Curation

With the layout established, I curated furniture and finishes that reflected the clients’ highly specific and expressive aesthetic. Due to their eclectic, bohemian, and mid-century preferences, many pieces were special-order selections chosen for their unique forms, materials, and color that could not be achieved through standard showroom offerings.

The color palette was intentionally bold and layered, incorporating deep greens, rusty oranges, and rich blues balanced with lighter wood tones to complement the darker wood elements already present in the home. This contrast allowed the new furnishings to feel vibrant and fresh while remaining cohesive with the existing architecture and finishes.

Each piece was selected with attention to scale, texture, and visual weight, ensuring the spaces felt collected rather than overwhelming. The result is a cohesive composition of color, pattern, and material that enhances the clients’ existing pieces while elevating the overall look and feel of the home.

Client Presentation

I presented the final design for the sitting room, living room, and dining room through a comprehensive client presentation that began with the clients’ inspiration and concluded with fully rendered views of the completed spaces. During the presentation, I walked the clients through each rendered space, explaining design decisions and how the combination of bold colors, natural materials, and curated furniture selections created balance and flow throughout the home. The renderings served as a final confirmation of the design direction, ensuring confidence in the selections and a clear understanding of how the spaces would feel once complete.
